RICHMOND JAMATKHANA
RICHMOND, B.C.
CLIENT: ISMAILI COUNCIL OF B.C.
The Ismaili Council of B.C. takes great pride in creating both beautiful architecture and a welcoming addition to each community where they locate. In order to create this type of facility it was necessary to engage with the surrounding community to inform and educate the local residents on the operation of the Jamatkhana and its welcoming nature.
It was also necessary to engage in the West Cambie Community Plan to ensure the ultimate plan would provide for the development of this type of facility within the study area. Major proposed road alignments created significant problems that had to be addressed and modified to insure the integrity of the property assembly necessary to complete the project.
Additionally, the existing heritage home on the site created a need for detailed study and engagement with specialty consultants, the City Heritage Department as well as the City Museum to ensure proper records were created for the home and any reusable materials were salvaged prior to demolition and stored for future restorations.
