INDUSTRIAL SAWMILL RELOCATION

The construction of the Annacis Island Bridge was a boon for traffic but created significant problems for existing industrial uses that would be located underneath the new structure.  Strict rules regulating uses permitted underneath the bridge (particularly a sawmill with the potential for significant fire damage) resulted in the need to relocate major elements of the complex.  Relocation also required complicated land exchanges, revised access connections to a new road alignment and the physical moving of complicated buildings and operations.

Satisfying the Provincial Ministry of Transportation, the Corporation of Delta and ensuring the ongoing viability of the sawmill operation demanded intense negotiations and creative solutions to a large number of issues.  Ultimately the bridge was built, buildings relocated, new roads constructed and the reconfigured sawmill continues as a thriving operation to this day.
