The redevelopment of the large sprawling Kennedy Heights Shopping Centre, which stretched out along Scott Road on both sides of 88th Avenue posed a large number challenges. Both Scott Road and 88th Avenue are major traffic arterials creating access concerns and requiring resolution of dedications for widening.
A major challenge involved the construction of a new Safeway store that was built almost entirely around the existing store before it was decommissioned to reduce the time the store would be closed during the redevelopment. A major BC Hydro power line also traversed the site creating the need for innovative site planning solutions. Also integrated into the site was Delta’s first neighbourhood pub, Kennedy’s, which complemented the overall tenant mix.
